Akon’s First Time Was Surprising And Quick

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Multi-platinum artist Akon’s first time was more surprising and quick than he thought it would be.

The first time he heard himself on the radio, that is.

Akon – known for his hits “Smack That” and “Don’t Matter” – heard his breakout track “Locked Up” on the radio in 2004 and didn’t even realize what was happening until the song was over.

That’s because Akon typically cruises around in his car listening to his own music and thought his radio debut was just one of his CDs.

He laughs, “My first time snuck up on me. I thought it was my demo CD until I heard the DJ say my name. It was so cool. After that, I kept it on that station all the time!”

The Senegal-born R&B sensation has since had 21 songs on the Billboard 100 and is the only artist to ever hold both the number one and number two spots simultaneously on the charts twice.

His latest CD, Freedom, drops tomorrow in both standard format and digitally on slotMusic MP3 cards.
