Grocery Shopping Becomes A Sweaty Sport

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A new sport called “aisling” is hitting the market – the supermarket, that is.

Aisling is a sport where participants pimp out their shopping carts, create costumes, and perform choreographed dance routines all while doing their grocery shopping.

The quirky sport is the subject of the hybrid documentary, American Shopper, out on DVD Tuesday (Nov. 18), which follows eight “aislers” as they strive to win the 1st National Aisling Championship.

Co-director Sybil Dessau says that while aisling is fun, it’s also very physically demanding.

She says the constant movement plus the “mental component” of finding the grocery items on your list is enough to break a serious sweat.

Dessau believes that if aisling catches on, it could become a mainstream sport that makes people feel liberated because it’s about self-expression.

She’s seen die-hard aislers wear everything from pageant gowns to Trekkie costumes to the market, and soup up their carts with glitter and marshmallow shooters, and says the innovation of the sport simply can’t be beat.
