‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Works The Pageant Circuit

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Grey’s Anatomy star Chandra Wilson believes brains are beautiful.

Wilson – who plays Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s – is one of the stars judging the Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant this Sunday (Aug. 10) in Los Angeles.

During the pageant, girls ages six to 12 are required to deliver a speech about a moment in African American history and talk about what they want to be when they grow up.

Wilson explains, “It’s about awareness and empowerment. They’re judged on brains, stage presence, and then beauty. They get to show off their talents. Wearing a princess gown is just a plus.”

Wilson is excited about judging the cute contestants because she actually competed in pageants herself as a kid.

She says, “I did local pageants in Houston when I was about seven for Sears and Montgomery Ward. It was so much fun!”

Her 10-year-old daughter also has pageant experience, and competed in Little Miss African American last year, bringing home four trophies.

Wilson laughs, “She came home and put up her awards, and moved all mine out of the way!”
