Jenna Dewan ‘Steps Up’ To Cheerleading

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Back in high school, actress Jenna Dewan really stepped it up as a cheerleader.

Dewan – best known for her dance diva role in Step Up – stars in Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal, a Lifetime movie based on the true story of unruly Texas cheerleaders gone wild.

Dewan plays a cheer coach who won’t be bullied by the teen queens, and assures that when she was a cheerleader in high school, she wasn’t nearly as bratty.

She says, “My squad was the exact opposite of these girls. We were athletes and cheered competitively – we weren’t just social cheerleaders.”

She insists her squad wouldn’t have mouthed off to their coach like the Fab Five clique because, in her words, “Our coach would’ve had our necks!”

Dewan didn’t get to put much of cheer skills to use in the film, but admits she had the urge.

She held back from jumping into a scene where the girls are cheering at a pep rally, but the director added a special take where Dewan got to showcase her rah-rah talents.

Fab Five premieres this Saturday (Aug. 2) on Lifetime.
