Donna Rose is an advocate on transsexual issues and knows first-hand the tough time many transgendered parents have around Fathers Day, having lived the first 40 years of her life as a man and parenting a 22-year-old son.
She says, People observe the holiday in their own way. My son doesnt remember my birthday, let alone Fathers Day, so we probably wont celebrate. Some transsexuals find it to be a slap in the face, but everyone has to figure out whats comfortable for them.
Rose is looking forward to the day when non-traditional families get a holiday of their own.
She explains. They havent come out with a transsexual parents day yet, but I wish they would. I would definitely celebrate it.
