‘Law & Order’ Creator Is Ready For A Western Showdown

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Law & Order creator Dick Wolf is challenging another long-running TV drama to a showdown.

Wolf has been producing Law & Order for the past 18 seasons, and his goal is for the legal drama to surpass a TV record held by the old Western series, Gunsmoke, which was on the air for 20 years.

With the 19th season of Law & Order currently in production, and the 20th not too far off, Wolf is intent on breaking records.

He says, “We have one more [season] to tie, and two to win over Gunsmoke, so it’s absolutely our number one priority right now.”

And Wolf plans to completely smoke out Gunsmoke.

He says, “I don’t just want Law & Order to be on TV for 20 years, I want to go for 40 years!”

Although Wolf has great ambitions for the legal drama, taking it to the big screen isn’t one of them.

He explains, “I’m really happy being a TV guy.”

Law & Order begins airing new episodes April 23 on NBC. The 19th season is slated to premiere January 2009.
