Jack Handey’s ‘Deep Thoughts’ Happen At Home

SANTA FE, N.M. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For funnyman Jack Handey, home is where the humor is.

Handey – humorist and former staff writer for Saturday Night Live, best known for Deep Thoughts By Jack Handey – has just penned What I’d Say To The Martians And Other Veiled Threats (Hyperion), a collection of his best essays and thoughts.

Handey says his best musings come to him while laying on the floor of his home office, throwing a football against the ceiling, but admits that being funny is a “painful” process.

He explains, “Deep Thoughts are hard to come by. For every nine I write, there’s only one I like. There are Deep Thoughts on index cards all over my house!”

Sometimes Handey’s writings are influenced by his family.

Once, Handey was going to take his little nephew to Disneyland but instead told the tot that Disneyland burned down.

He used that as the basis for a Deep Thought about how “Kids like to be tricked.”

He says, “My poor nephew cried and cried, and was a little traumatized from the experience, but at least I got a joke out of it.”

What I’d Say To The Martians hits shelves today (Apr. 8).
