Thats according to Eve Hars, the producer of Point Break Live!, a hilarious, absurd stage adaptation of the cult-classic action flick starring Reeves as FBI agent-turned- surfer Johnny Utah.
Now in its fifth year, the show picks someone right from the crowd to play Reeves ridiculous role and provides the amateur actor with cue cards containing Reeves lines.
Hars says the newbie actors do just fine and jokes, Its like Keanu is reading cue cards [in the film] anyway!
You dont have to perfect your surfer dude style to play the part a 65-year-old British man, a woman, and a Japanese TV star who couldnt speak English have all revived Reeves role.
While Reeves hasnt seen the show, Hars says, I ran into him at a bar in L.A., and explained the whole thing. He was really nice about it. He said, Wait, I can audition for my own role? What if I dont get it, itd be so embarrassing!
Point Break Live! begins a limited engagement April 11 at the Xenodrome in San Francisco. For more info, go to pointbreaklive.com.
