Leap Year Babies Hop Through Hardship

KEIZER, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You can’t take the hop out of a Leap Year Baby’s step.

The Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies is an Internet club that celebrates “Leapies” – people born on February 29 – who only get to celebrate their birthdays every four years.

Co-founder Raenell Dawn says many of the site’s members have bonded over experiences of being teased in school for their peculiar birthday, or being accused of having fake IDs because they were forced to use a different birthday on their driver’s license.

Dawn says, “This site isn’t our way of seeking therapy, but being told you have to pick a different birthday is so wrong. We must stop this.”

But while there are a few frustrating aspects of being a Leapy, Dawn – a Leapy herself – isn’t croaking too many complaints.

She says, “I can say I’m 12 at 48. No matter how old we get, we’re so young! And every other year, we can celebrate on February 28 or March 1, or all month if we want!”
