‘Geek’s’ Experience Feels Like Virtual Reality

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For Beauty and the Geek winner David Olsen, his experience on the reality show felt more like virtual reality.

Olsen – who won the competition along with his partner Jasmine Moore this past Tuesday (Dec. 4) – says being on the show was so surreal that it actually felt like a game of his favorite virtual reality hobby, Live Action Role Playing, or “LARPing,” where players act out fantasy adventures.

Olsen says, “The experience felt like it was one giant LARP. Just like in LARPing there were unexpected situations, challenges, and characters. The only difference was that I was playing myself and not a character!”

Olsen also says his five-week stint on the show lasted much longer than his typical LARPing events, which only last a few hours or days.

And while being on the show caused Olsen to fall behind on some of his administrative duties for his LARPing group back home in Boston, he says that in the end, Beauty and the Geek made him a better person.

Olsen adds, “I learned so much, and people tell me I’m much more poised now. I’m also more conscious of fashion and hair products.”
