Adam Arkin Reflects On Life With Papa Arkin

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For actor Adam Arkin, life with his Oscar-winning dad, Alan Arkin, has been truly prized.

Adam – best known for his work on Chicago Hope – currently stars in the NBC drama series, Life, and says growing up alongside his silver screen dad has been an incredible experience – with a few minor bumps along the way.

Although Adam’s decision to follow in his dad’s footsteps as an actor came “early and naturally’’ for him, life in front of the camera also came with some serious pressure.

Says Adam: “I was 12 years old when I acted in my first project, which was a short film directed by my dad. It truly was a pressured experience. Being directed by my dad was very intimidating.”

As a young adult, living in Papa Arkin’s shadow made Adam self-conscious.

He says, “I would go out of my way to make it clear to everyone that I wasn’t acting to imitate my father, I was acting for myself.”

But nowadays, Adam is thankful to have learned from the best.

He explains, “As I’ve gotten older, I don’t know where my dad’s influence ends and my own passion [for acting] begins. I idolize my dad, it’s just how I grew up. I’m so happy and inspired by his success.”
