‘Life’ Actor Hits The Slammer

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Emmy Award-winning actor Adam Arkin just hit the slammer – for his current TV gig, that is.

Arkin – Alan Arkin’s son, best known for his role on Chicago Hope – currently plays an ex-prisoner in the NBC series Life, and says researching for his role meant doin’ some time in the big house.

To get his cellmate persona just right, Arkin says he went on field trips to prisons, and even made some personal lifestyle changes that included “flying coach a lot.”

But even before his research, Arkin had some knowledge of lock-down life.

He explains, “I’ve always been interested in convict life. I’ve read a lot of books and have worked with people who have gone to jail. Unfortunately lots of people in the Hollywood business end up in jail, so I had a general handle on the experience.”

Still, if Arkin had to hit the slammer in real life, he’d have mixed feelings about being a prisoner.

Arkin says, “It would be an awful punishment to be locked up and not be able to share experiences with your loved ones. But from a performer’s standpoint, it would give me a chance to really work on my acting!”

Life airs Wednesday on NBC.
