Princess Diana: Royal Fashionista

LONDON (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Diana, Princess of Wales, was known for being gracious and kind, but she was also a revered fashion diva.

At least that’s according to professional fashion commentator Colin McDowell, who has just penned Diana Style (St. Martin’s Press), a book that explores Princess Diana’s style evolution from modest aristocrat to chic princess.

Says McDowell: “Diana took a bit of time to become a true fashion icon, but when she did, she didn’t hold anything back, and her clothes reflected her mood.”

But while much of Diana’s wardrobe is fascinating, there are two infamous dresses that made the princess a bonafide fashionista.

McDowell explains, “Her big, bulky wedding gown was the worst dress she ever wore and her little black Christina Stambolian dress was the best. The wedding gown was a fairytale gown, fit for a woman who was about to become royalty in front of the entire world. The black dress, however, was her most triumphant fashion move ever. She wore it when Prince Charles publicly confessed his infidelity, as if saying, ‘I’m not going to be a victim, I’m going to show everyone I’m strong. I’m going to steal the show.’”

Diana Style hits shelves today (Aug. 23).
