Rapper Schools Mallrats In What It Means To Be A Real Punk

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you want to be considered a real punk rocker, stay away from the hipster mall store, Hot Topic.

That the note being sung by rapper MC Lars, whose song “Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock,” preaches against everything the store has to offer, including Tupac incense burners, Sex Pistols boxer shorts, and Led Zeppelin air fresheners.

Lars wrote the ditty because he was fed up with people wearing band T-shirts just to look cool, but not being able to sing a single one of the band’s songs on their shirt.

Says Lars: “It was ridiculous – it’s just about the most poseur thing you can do.”

Despite knocking the store in his song, Lars admits some Hot Topic bigwigs consider themselves fans of the jam, and even put up display cases in stores filled with all the things he raps against.

Lars adds, “The even put out a T-shirt of me. It’s like they want to capitalize on the song, but don’t want to admit they really aren’t hardcore at the same time.”

MC Lars spreads his message starting today (July 19), when he begins his North American tour in Trumansburg, New York.
