That the note being sung by rapper MC Lars, whose song Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock, preaches against everything the store has to offer, including Tupac incense burners, Sex Pistols boxer shorts, and Led Zeppelin air fresheners.
Lars wrote the ditty because he was fed up with people wearing band T-shirts just to look cool, but not being able to sing a single one of the bands songs on their shirt.
Says Lars: It was ridiculous its just about the most poseur thing you can do.
Despite knocking the store in his song, Lars admits some Hot Topic bigwigs consider themselves fans of the jam, and even put up display cases in stores filled with all the things he raps against.
Lars adds, The even put out a T-shirt of me. Its like they want to capitalize on the song, but dont want to admit they really arent hardcore at the same time.
MC Lars spreads his message starting today (July 19), when he begins his North American tour in Trumansburg, New York.
