Johnny Depp Doesn’t Have The Hook To Be A Pirate

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Swashbuckler fans can watch Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End starting this Friday (May 25), but budding buccaneers like Johnny Depp may need to do more homework to become real pirates.

Scallywag expert Colin Woodard who wrote The Republic Of Pirates (Harcourt), says Depp and Orlando Bloom may look like authentic pirates on the big screen, but would be forced to walk the plank on the real high seas.

However, Woodard does think Depp’s corsair clothing in the films is similar to true pirate’s wear.

Says Woodard: “Pirates did dress with Depp’s flamboyant style after raiding the wardrobe of merchants.”

To be a true pirate, Woodard suggests filling your enemies with fear and intimidation rather than good quips or charm like Depp.

He explains, “Scare your opponents to surrender as quickly as possible by yelling and threatening them that you’ll kill them.”

And rather than following magical compasses, Woodard recommends real mateys establish a vast black market trade network and develop good seamanship skills.
