Jon Voight Brushes Up On His American History

WASHINGTON, DC (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Jon Voight has made film history, and, in real life, he considers himself a history buff – American history that is.

Voight stars as a vengeful Mormon during the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre in the new film September Dawn, and he admits that many of his film role choices force him to brush up on his history – whether he likes it or not.

For instance, Voight says Dawn opened his eyes to a whole chapter of American history he didn’t even know existed, but considers very relevant to modern Americans.

Says Voight: “The religious fanaticism that took over the group in the movie mirrors the Islamic fundamentalists that are threatening us in the world today on a much larger scale.”

Voight says it’s a good thing he likes doing his history homework on set, because he’s currently filming the sequel to National Treasure, which deals with a group of people who must find a valuable treasure by solving clues using facts from American history.

As Voight puts it, “I’m known for doing my homework on a role, so it’s a good thing history is something I’m very interested in, otherwise I’d be in trouble!”

September Dawn hits theaters May 4.
