Lulu Sings ‘To American Idol, With Love’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Lulu is best known for her 1967 hit, “To Sir, With Love,” but now she’s doing something that might be called “To American Idol, With Love.”

The ’60s-era pop singer has spent the last few days instructing the female finalists on the hit TV series, and says she wanted to “encourage them to show their greatness.”

In her words, “I told them not to worry about how big your voice is, because some of the best singers don’t have big voices.”

To that end, Lulu instructed some of the ladies that a good performance has to be dramatic and it’s important to provide “some light and shade to the performance.”

During one session, Lulu also tried to convince one finalist to change her song to one better suited for her voice, but admits “I won’t know if she did until the broadcast.”

No word on how much the singers took from Lulu, but she admits the experience reminded her of her own youth.

As she puts it, “They’re like rabbits in the headlights.”
