Actor Corners Market On Bodyguard Roles

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Playing a security guard is giving one Los Angeles actor lots of job security.

He’s Rick “Smalls” Strickland and in the last 12 years, he’s cornered the market in Hollywood for beefy burly bodyguards and supersized security guards.

In fact, he’s so in demand that his fellow actors jokingly accuse him of taking their parts away from them.

Smalls – which is his stage name – says the key to playing a security guard is to realize that “You’re not PLAYING a bouncer. You ARE the bouncer.”

That bit of advice came in handy while filming Will Ferrell’s upcoming skater comedy Blades Of Glory.

In one scene, the comedian tries to sneak into an ice arena and it was Smalls job to prevent his entry.

In his words, “We winged all the action, except for the dialogue. In one scene, it’s like he’s jumping for a goal line and I try to stop him.”

It was a strenuous day on the job and Smalls is glad that he didn’t injure himself. Still, he admits he was “out of breath” after shooting.

Blades Of Glory, which also stars Jon Heder, skates into theaters March 30.
