George Takei Educates ‘Heroes’ Star Masi Oka

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – George Takei has just signed on to the NBC series, Heroes, but he’s already set to offer fatherly advice to his fellow cast members.

The man known as “Sulu” from the first Star Trek series now plays Masi Oka’s father on the show.

Although Oka’s time traveling character, Hiro Nakamura, is a big Trekkie, Oka admits he’s not as big a fan of the show in real life.

Takei jokes that he plans “to educate him” by giving him box sets of the series, but says he did give Oka some background information to help him.

For instance, in Japan, the show is known as Big Adventure In Space, and Takei’s character is known as “Kato,” because, as he puts it, “Sulu is not a Japanese surname.”

The little tips seem to have helped. Takei says Oka “found them very enlightening.”

Heroes airs Monday nights on NBC.
