Arab-American Comics Say Enough Already With Terrorist Jokes

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Arab Americans can take a joke – if they’re the one’s telling it.

This year marks the five-year anniversary of 9/11 and two Arab-American comedians are commemorating the event by poking fun at their lives since the attacks.

Dean Obeidallah and Negin Farsad have no problem poking fun at their own culture in their shows I Come in Peace and Bootleg Islam but they do have a problem with others making wisecracks about their culture.

Says Obeidallah: “I still have people joke around and say ‘If you don’t come into the office I know I better run’ and ‘If you hear of any (attacks coming up), let me know.'”

He says he also gets asked all the time if he supports the attacks of 9/11 and whether he likes hummus.

Farsad has also had to put up with ignorant comments – from the Muslim community.

She explains: “I’ve been called a ‘shameful girl’ for what I talk about onstage” and has even had family members in Iran refuse to talk to her over her act.

I Come in Peace and Bootleg Islam debuts Sunday (Sept. 3) in New York.
