Dancing or Spelling Pro: You Can’t Be Good At Both

LOS ANGELES, (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – So he thinks he can dance – but can he spell?

That’s the case with Jaymz Tuaileva, the latest dancer to boogie off last Thursday’s (July 6) episode of “So You Think You Can Dance.”

“Jaymz,” emphasis on the “-ymz,” wants to be known for his contemporary dancing style on the show, but it’s the strange spelling of his name that gets as much attention. His given name is “James,” but Tuaileva has been using the phonetic spelling of his first name since elementary school.

As Tuaileva tells it, “When I was little our teacher told us we could learn to spell our names if we just sounded them out, and J-A-Y-M-Z is what I came up with. And it’s stuck ever since.”

Tuaileva admits that folks regularly tease his spelling gaff, but he’s considering a legal change to the “Jaymz” spelling – not just out of habit, but also because he’s hoping it will help define his burgeoning career in show biz.
