At least they are in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where self- proclaimed fairy specialist Jonathan Wright has been researching them since 1993, when he found a tiny door in his home, underneath his stairs.
After close analysis, he determined the diminutive door to be an entrance to a fairy wonderland, and claims another door has mysteriously appeared since then.
Amazingly, when you open the fairy door, you can see a tiny spiral staircase and a mini fireplace.
But Wright says fairy doors are scattered all over Ann Arbor at cafes, gift shops and boutiques. All are around six inches high and each has its own unique architecture.
Wrights favorite magical door is found at a gift shop called The Peaceable Kingdom and he says visitors leave offerings for the fairies on their doorstep.
Even stranger: If you peek through the windows of this dwelling, the gifts given to the fairies are set up like a mini gift shop.
As Wright puts it, There are pennies, rings, stickers, and beads in there. They might be saving up the pennies to buy themselves a stingray bike.
