Freelance ‘SNL’ Writer Posts Rejected Gags Online

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The old saying goes that acting is easy, but comedy is hard and one New York writer is offering proof.

His name is Ben Schwartz and he’s been a freelance joke man for Saturday Night Live and David Letterman since 2004.

Schwartz is only 24 but he already knows something about rejection. He claims he has “a pile of rejected jokes” for every one joke he does get on the air.

But instead of tossing the rejects away in a trash can, he’s compiled his favorites in video form at his website,

Schwartz is forbidden to share his most recent rejects due to a 30-day retainer with Letterman, but his all time favorite include crude, unusable digs on Kobe Bryant and Christina Aguilera.

One recent favorite rejected by all his clients goes like this:

“A small town in Brazil has declared May 9 ‘Orgasm Day’ – it’s a holiday women have to celebrate alone, quietly, after the men have gone to sleep.”
