Long-Term Love May Prove Difficult For World Record-Breaking Sailor

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A New York man is preparing to give up dry land – and maybe long-term love – for a trip around the world in an 11-foot boat.

Eric Humphreys is preparing to build the tiny boat himself and take it on a world record-breaking trip around the world next December. He’s even maintaining his own Captain’s Log of sorts through daily video clips at

Although one of his favorite books is Maiden Voyage, about a couple who find love at sea, Humphreys is pretty realistic when it comes to his own love life.

He figures traveling in a boat with the same amount of space as a Volkswagen Beetle would drive any girl crazy because the only way they could sleep at night would be if she laid directly on top of him.

He thinks the idea would be about as smart as bringing along “a St. Bernard puppy.”

Humphreys admits he’s “always had a soft spot for Popeye” and he isn’t ruling out finding his Olive Oyl on the trip.

He’ll just have to spend time with her after the 500-day journey.
