Christian Keifer, Jeff Pitcher and Matthew Gerken have been writing their presidential ditties since February 1, and one of the reasons they elected to take on the monumental task was to raise awareness about some of the more obscure chief executives.
Keifer says the songwriters divided up the presidential pie and, so far, he has composed tunes about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, Millard Fillmore and Rutherford B. Hayes.
It was harder than he expected. He says a prez like Lincoln is so well-known that its hard to say something new so the Lincoln song is actually an avant-garde guitar solo thats supposed to reflect the chaos surrounding his assassination.
On the other hand, Hayes was so obscure that Keifer focused on his beard rather than his political legacy.
Keifer, Pitcher and Gerken will write tunes for every president up to Bill Clinton and then collaborate on a song for George W. Bush. After that, the songs will be available on a triple vinyl release.
