Hip Hop Home Builder Appeals To African American Buyers

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A home builder in Columbus, Ohio, is hoping to build up business with hip hop home buyers using model home names that have street cred.

Tony Reynolds, a former rap record producer has gone into the home building business with TK Constructors, Inc., and tweaked the floor plans of homes to be in line with what his crunk-loving customers want.

Reynolds says TK Constructors asked him to come up with new names for the models and when he hit them with “T- Squared,” in his words, “Their eyes nearly popped out of their heads.”

He explains that they were expecting something more traditional like “Huntington” or “Arlington” for the $110,000 to $125,000 homes.

But hoping his names would resonate with African American buyers, Reynolds stuck with names like “The PattyLou” for an 1100-square-foot ranch model; “T-Squared (T2)” for a 1400-square-foot two-story home; “Platinum Grillz” – a 1600-square-foot two-story home with a prominent attached front garage; and the “El Caliente” – a 1200-square-foot ranch style home.

He says it’s too early to gauge the impact the names will have, but he’s already planning to do the same with developments in Houston and Florida.
