Johnny Cash Tribute Band Cashing In On ‘Walk The Line’

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Anyone can be an Elvis Presley impersonator but a man in San Diego is hoping to cash in on the new interest in Johnny Cash.

Douglas Benson is the lead singer for Cash’d Out, a Johnny Cash tribute band that has been around for the past year but is seeing its bottom line rise with the success of Walk The Line.

Benson claims he started his project out of love, not lucre. He started to copy Cash 15 years ago when he heard a Man in Black tape while on a trip to Mexico and sang along with it.

Friends were so impressed by Benson’s booming baritone that he started considering cashing in on Cash but didn’t get the lineup set until last January – before he heard about the movie.

Benson insists he’s not a Johnny Cash impersonator but admits he wants to sound and look like him as much as possible.

So far, Cash’d Out is performing in bars in California and Nevada but Benson hopes to follow in his hero’s footsteps by performing in prisons.
