Ukulele Glam Rock Band Strumming Success

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For one glam rock group, tight pants and ukuleles do not equal tons of groupies...yet.

Band member Andrew Vladeck, who plays ukulele for the group The Honey Brothers, started playing the instrument as a kid when someone gave him a broken uke.

Vladeck says he turned his brother onto the instrument too, and the two used to roam the streets of New York playing American folk classics to passersby.

Eventually, the group formed and wrote songs with a glam-indie rock twist using instruments like the banjo and harmonica.

As of yet, Vladeck says they don’t have any groupies, but contemplating the type of groupies who remember when the ukulele was first popular, he says, “I wouldn’t mind some flapper groupies.”

The Honey Brothers may just get that, as they start their nine city tour beginning in San Diego on December 8.
