One Texas family is currently auctioning off bottles of bacteria-laden water drained from their home in Lumberton, Texas, and the opening bid started at $5.
Others sellers are listing bottles of relief water and pieces of MREs passed out in Hurricane Katrina emergency kits as collectibles.
But Las Vegas-based collectibles expert Donn Pearlman says anyone who is hoping these items, and possibly future items from Hurricane Wilma, will increase in value should keep in mind, unless theres an independent, third-party certificate of authenticity, theres no way to tell if the item is really what its purported to be.
Pearlman adds, Five years from now the only thing more rare than most of these hurricane items will be finding someone who actually wants to buy them from you.
