King Impersonator Is Also The President Of Elvises

LAS VEGAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Las Vegas entertainer Johnny Thompson makes his living singing the King’s hits but he’s also the president of Elvis Presley impersonators.

When Thompson isn’t performing like Presley, he serves as president of the Professional Elvis Impersonators Association, an organization that includes between 75 to 100 members around the world.

Thompson started the organization five years ago to help his fellow impersonators network and gain respect in the entertainment world.

It’s not easy. Many people have “Suspicious Minds” about Elvis impersonators thanks to second-rate Kings with homemade costumes, substandard sound systems and, worse, no resemblance to the man they’re celebrating.

As he puts it, “If you don’t look, sound or move like Elvis, don’t do this for a living. It weakens the business for the rest of us.”

The spotlight is shining especially bright on Elvis this week because Tuesday (Aug. 16) marks the 28th anniversary of his death and it’s traditionally the busiest time of the year for impersonators.
