High Tech Cane Needs More Support

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Even something as simple as an old person’s walking stick can’t avoid going high tech these days.

Case in point: the so-called Stiguard cane is a new improvement over plain sticks with a flashlight, emergency siren and hand massager built into the handle.

The cane’s only saleswoman so far is Haiping Cheng, who imports them from the inventor and manufacturer – who just happens to be her father in Taiwan.

Cheng says most of her father’s products are massage- related, so the hand stroker was “easy to put in.” She points it out can also be used on the shoulders and legs when you’re not tap dancing like Fred Astaire.

But geriatric America may not be ready for a cane with all the extras.

Cheng has set up shop at a kiosk in a Chicago mall and claims many oldsters look at the cane and say “it’s a good idea,” but, so far, no one is buying.

She figures it’s because the Stiguard is so unique that people need to think it over before buying it.
