Case in point: the so-called Stiguard cane is a new improvement over plain sticks with a flashlight, emergency siren and hand massager built into the handle.
The canes only saleswoman so far is Haiping Cheng, who imports them from the inventor and manufacturer who just happens to be her father in Taiwan.
Cheng says most of her fathers products are massage- related, so the hand stroker was easy to put in. She points it out can also be used on the shoulders and legs when youre not tap dancing like Fred Astaire.
But geriatric America may not be ready for a cane with all the extras.
Cheng has set up shop at a kiosk in a Chicago mall and claims many oldsters look at the cane and say its a good idea, but, so far, no one is buying.
She figures its because the Stiguard is so unique that people need to think it over before buying it.
