The five-foot-high crap chariot has a dung beetle clinging to the back and is part of the zoos new Bug Carousel, which features 64 different creepy crawlies.
Two organizations, the Wildlife Conservation Society and Carousel Works, hand-picked the featured species and feces with a focus on beauty and interest.
Carousel Works dung designer Art Ritchie puts it another way: You have to think like an eight- year-old. You want to ride in or on the thing that grosses your mother out.
Ritchie describes his crap creation as brown, green and yellow with seeds to make it look authentic. The designer sealed it with a high-gloss paint for preservation purposes.
It took five carvers about three weeks to complete the two- seat chariot. So, was all the hard work and attention to detail worth it? My granddaughter thinks its a cookie, admits Ritchie.
