Table Tennis Helps Florida Man Become World’s Fastest Pizza Maker

SARASOTA, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A little table tennis helped win Rene DeGuia the title of the World’s Fastest Pizza Maker.

The Florida-based pie-maker recently beat out 12 other dough masters from around the world in Dominos Pizza’s 19th bi- annual competition.

DeGuia whipped together three large one-topping pizzas in 1 minute, 9 seconds – or one pizza every 24 seconds – to win the title and $5000.

In preparation for the event, DeGuia made 1,000 pizzas a day, but also partook in his favorite pastime: table tennis.

He says he played “a lot” in the weeks leading up to the competition to get down his timing, touch and foot speed, which he insists are essential to making a pie in rapid time.

The game also helped DeGuia – who’s been making pizzas for three decades – get into a “competitive- mode,” though he admits it wasn’t hard, because he’s “pretty competitive at heart.”
