Dave Navarro Warns Aspiring INXSers: ‘Talent Alone Won’t Cut It’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being the lead singer of a popular band like INXS takes an excess of talent but Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro is warning aspiring applicants that “talent alone won’t cut it.”

Navarro is one of the co-hosts for Rock Star: INXS, a new reality show featuring 16 singers applying to be the new lead for the 1980s-era Aussie pop band.

He says his job is as an “intermediary” between the band and the wannabe vocalists and insists all of them “have earned their spots on the show. There are no funny outtakes” a la William Hung.

Navarro says besides singing skills, the best rock stars have a willingness to take on “human behavior in all its forms and express everything from humor to aggression and vulnerability.”

He says the band wants a frontperson who can lead them into new musical territory and insists talent isn’t enough because “otherwise, you might as well be singing on a cruise ship.”

Rock Star: INXS debuts July 11 and while there will be a panel of judges, Navarro hopes at least one of the singers does something truly rock ’n’ roll and decides not to accept any criticism.
