Caped Crusader Champions Lawn Mower Safety

HERMITAGE, Penn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A man who lost part of his foot in a lawn mower accident isn’t pussy-footing around when it comes to lawn mower safety.

Richard Mudrinich lost his left big toe in September of 2003, when it slipped under his push mower and got chopped apart.

These days, he warns folks about the hazards of power garden tools whenever he can, especially now that grass cutting season is around the corner.

Mudrinich masquerades as the super hero “Rescue Rick,” a caped crusader who shows up at schools and events passing out literature about lawn mower safety.

He even paints pictures with his mangled foot at events by sticking a paint brush between his remaining toes.

Rescue Rick says there are about 400,000 gardening casualties a year from garden power tools, 20 percent of which are children.

He says the best line of defense is to read a lawn mower’s instruction manual before firing it up.
