Smokey Robinson Goes From Soul Songs To Soul Food

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Chew on this: Smokey Robinson is going from soul songs to soul food.

Robinson now has his own brand of frozen soul food entrees, called Soul In The Bowl, that features dishes like seafood gumbo and red beans and rice.

Making music AND food might seem tough but Robinson says both come from the heart, except “food tastes better than a CD.”

Celebrity food lines are nothing new and Robinson realizes that for every Paul Newman salad dressing, there’s a Frank Sinatra spaghetti sauce.

That’s why he spent 18 months doing taste tests because, as he puts it, “people may buy it once because my name’s on it but we want repeat customers.”

That’s also why Robinson rejected product names referencing his songs, such as “My Grits” instead of “My Girl.”

Robinson’s soul food will be available all over America and he’ll use profits to hold seminars for urban teens to “teach them that they don’t have to be entertainers or sports stars to make it.”
