Billy Idol: ‘Songwriting Is Like Pregnancy’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Anyone who says rock ’n’ roll is a young man’s game will get an argument from Billy Idol.

Even though the 1980s sex symbol admits to being “4900 years old,” he says he doesn’t feel as old as he once thought he was.

Idol is currently riding high on the success of Devil’s Playground, his first album in 12 years, and says success is sweet because he’s approached his comeback step-by-step with a great band.

The 12-year break wasn’t easy for Idol, who admits at times he was frightened that he lost his talent and says his past success has created a high standard to live up to.

Still, he says the public reception of Devil’s Playground reminds him that no matter what happens next, he can always write songs – an act he compares to pregnancy.

In his words, “It’s like having sex for me. You bounce ideas back to someone else and then suddenly they’re pregnant.”
