Heeerre’s Johnny’s Microphone

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Johnny Carson may be gone, but the microphone he used to interview hundreds of stars won’t be forgotten thanks to a former crewman on The Tonight Show.

Boom operator Stan Sweeney has been the proud owner of the microphone Carson used from the 1960s to the 1980s since the metal rectangle was retired from Carson’s desk more than two decades ago during an equipment upgrade.

Now, Sweeney is auctioning off the Shure model SM33 mic so fans of The Tonight Show will have a chance to own part of Carson’s legacy.

According to Doug Norwine of Heritage Galleries, the auction house selling the mic, Sweeney rescued Johnny’s blabber box from the junk pile after the show went through a technical overhaul.

Norwine estimates the microphone will fetch $20,000 to $30,000 when it goes up for sale on April 21 and 22, but since it’s such a rare find, the sky could be the limit – especially if a bidding war erupts between fans.
