Senior Pitches Padres Theme Song

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A San Diego senior is hoping to hit a sonic home run for her beloved Padres baseball team.

Eighty-seven-year-old Myrtle Bernard, a resident of San Diego since 1961 and a long-time Padres fan, is one of the competitors in the team’s current search for a 2005 season theme song.

Her fight song, “Go Padres, Go,” hit a home run with fans because it’s the only tune out of 140 submissions played on an organ.

She wrote the song four years ago for fun, but didn’t record it until a few weeks ago when she saw a TV ad about the Padres song contest.

Bernard plays the melody on her Baldwin organ, while singer Cody Tegt tackles lyrics like: Go Padres, go/ You’re on a roll/ Your fans all know/ Go Padres, go.

If Bernard’s song is chosen the winner later this week, she’ll get $5,000 and a chance to play the song live before a Padres’ game.
