The famous crapper at the Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom House in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, was erected by a wealthy business man in 1886 so his large family could have a spacious area to do their business.
Though the pot has been retired from use since 1974, Henrietta Stiles of the Belle Plaine Historical Society keepers of the crapper says the outhouse can still answer if nature calls.
The pit under it is so deep, it never even came close to filling up during its 88 years in use.
Thats good because if it did, they wouldve had to move it seeing as how its actually attached to the house.
Since its in close quarters, many think the john would cause a stink while in use.
However, Stiles says thats not the case as a ventilation system directs noxious fumes out of a shaft on the roof.© Copyright 2010 Wireless Flash News Inc
