Skanky Chicks Can't Taint Real Cowgirls

A real cowgirl's image can't be tainted by skanky girls in daisy dukes and boots.

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas, pays homage to the gals who’ve made a mark on the American West including gunslinger Annie Oakley and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Executive Director Pat Riley says a true cowgirl can be a rancher, rodeo performer, or someone who exemplifies the lifestyle, like artist Georgia O’Keeffe who would camp in the wild for weeks at a time painting the scenery.

They are not, however, women in sexy cowgirl get-ups looking to catch a man’s eye with their teeny denim shorts and bare midriff.

Luckily, Riley believes that those who sexualize the cowgirl don’t give true steer-loving ladies a bad name.

She says, “The image of the cowgirl is so strong. Once people get the opportunity to be introduced to a real cowgirl and recognize their importance, it overrides the stereotype.”
