Fab Four Traumatized By Beatlemania

Tuesday, March 30, 2010 17:11 GMT

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Beatlemania propelled the Fab Four to massive fame, but it also scarred them for life.

So says Robert Rodriguez, author of Fab Four FAQ 2.0: The Beatles’ Solo Years, 1970-1980 (Backbeat), out April 10 – the 40th anniversary of when the Beatles broke up.

Rodriguez argues that the Beatles’ solo careers produced some of the best music ever – especially from Ringo Starr – but sadly, it was ignored.

The public was so obsessed with getting the foursome back together, they never gave the guys a fair shot separately.

Rodriguez says the ongoing Beatlemania after the group disbanded was a “burden” on the fellas, especially George Harrison.

He pretty much suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder caused by Beatlemania and “living in the shadow of their former greatness.”

The high expectations prevented the Beatles from ever reuniting, though they came close.

They were one John Lennon shy when they played at Eric Clapton’s wedding in 1979, and Lennon later claimed he would’ve joined had they asked.
