Wednesday, March 17, 2010 17:08 GMT
VANCOUVER, B.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) The reason why people get so wild on St. Patricks Day (Mar. 17) isnt booze its leprechauns.According to leprechaun investigator Tanis Helliwell, the impish little men are directly to blame for St. Paddys Day debauchery.
Shes seen leprechauns and other magical creatures all her life and is well acquainted with their wickedly wacky ways.
She explains, They have a mischievous sense of humor. Theyre around all the time, and when something funny is happening its because theyre around.
However, the magical men tend to go extra crazy on St. Paddys Day since its their Christmas.
Their boisterous energy rubs off on everyone whos knocking back green beer, which causes the debauchery that always ensues during the Irish holiday.
Helliwell advises drinkers to buy a pint of Guinness and leave it on the bartop for the leprechauns to chug because it brings good luck.
