‘Grandma’ Death Song Loved By Grandmas

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Grandmas love the classic holiday ditty that’s all about their untimely death.

Exactly 30 years ago, former vet Elmo “Dr. Elmo” Shropshire recorded “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,” the silly tune about a drunk grandma who gets killed by Santa’s reindeer.

Over the decades, radio stations and groups have boycotted the song, but Dr. Elmo assures grandmas actually dig it.

They often buy the Christmas single for their grandkids and are completely “in on the joke.”

Despite the dead grandma hook, Dr. Elmo says kids still call radio stations to actively request his holiday jam.

He thinks it’s the only Christmas song that’s really “stuck” with kids, who may use it to rebel against boring “Silent Night.”

Dr. Elmo says deaths by reindeer are rare. The truth is, the song is a metaphor for one hell of a hangover.

The real grandma it’s based on partied so hard on Christmas, she felt like she got run over by a reindeer the next morning.
