The Twilight sequel out November 20 follows a teen girls descent into depression and suicidal tendencies after she loses her beloved vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen.
Dale Emme, of the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program, says New Moons angsty plot treads dangerous territory and may cause lovelorn teens to try to take their own lives after a bad break-up.
Because the series is so popular, it can affect many youth at once. He believes teens may identify with Bella Swans depression, and emulate the characters behavior.
He adds, By her attempting suicide in the storyline, they might too.
Its especially risky for Twihards who are dealing with insecurities similar to Bellas who doesnt feel pretty or worthy of love.
Theyre even more likely to copy her actions.
And though Bella survives her suicide attempts, real life mortals may not be so lucky.
