Tokyo’s Wackiest Theme Restaurants

VANCOUVER, B.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – In Tokyo, it’s normal to be served dinner by a monster, ninja, or grown man in a schoolboy outfit.

Japanese designer La Carmina has penned Crazy, Wacky Theme Restaurants: Tokyo! (Mark Batty Publisher), a guide to the city’s most bizarre dining establishments, out this August.

Carmina visited dozens of wacky theme restaurants including maid cafes – where waitresses sporting maid outfits offer to clean patrons’ ears – Jesus-themed cafes, vampire restaurants, and a cafe where live animals roam the dining room.

She says the weirdest restaurants are jail-themed ones, where patrons are handcuffed and taken to a makeshift “cell” to eat.

Along the way, they’re served “exploding cocktails” and scared by monsters.

Another strange diner is one where grown men dress up in Harry Potter-style schoolboy outfits and tend to women hand and foot.

Carmina says the most upscale theme restaurant is one where waiters dress up as ninjas and “attack” you on the way to the bathroom.
