Taco Bell Dog Was A Diva

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Despite the collaborative effort, the late Taco Bell chihuahua, Gidget, got more play than the guy who voiced her.

Carlos Alazraqui, of Reno 911! fame, provided the voice for Gidget’s famous one-liner “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” in the late ’90s ads.

However, he was brushed to the side and Gidget was the one who reaped the fortune and notoriety.

Though Alazraqui was “responsible for half her fame,” it was the pooch who got invited to fancy red carpets and landed Hollywood roles.

In fact, Alazraqui didn’t even get free food from Taco Bell for his voiceover, but did get swag like Gidget dolls, calendars, and magnets that he holds dear now that she’s dead.

The duo once met on the set and Alazraqui admits the doggy diva was “stand-offish” and may have been upset at being voiced by a man.

Still, he believes Gidget earned her limelight and he and his “barrio chihuahua” voice were just accessories.
