When Dr. Maiysha Clairborne isnt helping her patients get healthy, she gets down by shaking her belly as perhaps Americas only belly dancing doctor.
Dr. Clairborne started her tummy twisting during medical school because she loved exercise but wanted to avoid being bored.
Since then, Dr. Clairborne performs stomach churning routines in public whenever she can and even prescribes belly dancing to her female patients who want a fun way to exercise.
She explains, Belly dancing not only improves flexibility and body awareness, but its good for digestion.
She hopes to show other doctors how belly dancing can improve health and would also like to do a demo for the fictional docs on shows like Greys Anatomy and ER.
If it works, maybe doctors will soon tell patients, Take two belly dances and call me in the morning.
