For nearly three decades, Magnus Skarphendinsson has been headmaster of the Icelandic Elf School, where he teaches students the history of elves and hidden peoples.
He hosts classes for foreigners and locals alike, and takes students on fields trips to places in Iceland that are said to be inhabited by elves.
Skarphendinsson believes there are more than 600 areas where elves reside, but the magical beings are tough to spot since they live in a different dimension.
Still, he says many of his more psychic students have made contact with the elves, and they are a proud and friendly race.
Skarphendinsson says the elves are fine with his excursion into their territory because they know he means no harm.
He says there are 13 different types of elves in existence, who vary in size from 10 to 80 centimeters.
They wear very colorful clothes and resemble American elves seen around Santas workshop.
