Checker best known for his 1960s hit The Twist and the infamous rock n roll dance that came with it says his dance moves are responsible for giving the world the boogie.
He claims that every dance step created since 1959 has been influenced by one of his four signature dance moves: The Twist, The Pony, The Shake, and The Fly.
Checker says that when rappers gyrate in music videos, theyre really just emulating his Pony dance, and when dancers throw their hands in the air like they just dont care, theyre simply doing a variation of The Fly.
His Shake move can be seen at any club, when, in his words, A girls butt is shakin around on the dance floor destroying everyone around it.
Checker says that when he introduced The Twist on American Bandstand in 1960, he basically invented the wheel by creating a style he calls dancing apart from the beat.
Checker boogies again Tuesday (Jul. 22) when he releases All The Best, a deluxe CD set of his greatest hits.
